Having the most verbal, non talkative boy

Within the past few months Scott and I have noticed a regression in Lucas’s speech. At 12 months Lucas was easily saying Dad, Mom, Dog, Ball and an attempt at Cat which came out sounding more like Dat. Now at almost 16 months he rarely says any actual words except for the occasional Daddy. We have discussed this with his pediatrician, neurologist and now early childhood intervention case manager.

The good news is that all three say without a shadow of a doubt that this is NOT the early signs of autism. Lucas displays so many social attributes that are completely opposite of autism and no one feels that this could be a warning sign.

However, we are left frustrated and wondering why our little man has stopped talking. He is very verbal and holds conversations of miscellaneous sounds and movements but traditional words seem to be evading him. So I ask that as you think of us you would pray for these things specifically:

• Lucas’s formulation of words would return and continue to develop
• The doctor’s and therapists would help us make a determination as to the cause of his restless nights as well as his regression in speech
• God would give Scott and I patience beyond our own abilities.
