Ness And Co

Is he walking yet?

Isn’t it amazing that we as a people are always pushing for the next thing. We are rarely content with what we have at the moment.
When a couple is dating, they are always asked when the engagement will be?
When engaged, when will the wedding be?
When married, when will the children come?
And it doesn’t stop there, with children the drive for crawling, talking and walking is pushed too.

Scott and I have recently been tested in dealing with the outside push for Lucas to be walking. The questions pour in, oh is he walking yet? And when the reply is no (not on his own), there is almost always a look or murmur of concern from the questioner. While it is tough that at 14 months Lucas is not walking on his own, it is not a developmental concern for us or our pediatrician. Yes, we want him to walk on his own. At 30 pounds it is tough to carry L around places but at the same time we don’t want to traumatize him by disciplining him for not walking. (Yes some people do that).

So my new life lesson from God is learning to enjoy, cherish and love every stage that we are in now and not always look to the next step. I am thankful to God that Lucas is developing well and we know that he will be walking on his own any day now so for the time being, I am thankful that I can still keep up with him.
